Advocacy group swamped with complaints about garda misconduct

Campaign group Justice4All said it is overwhelmed by the influx of complaints of Garda misconduct it is receiving on a daily basis.

The group is calling on the Minister for Justice to set up a new Garda complaints Forum.

Frances Fitzgerald has said she wants members of the force to go directly to the Garda Ombudsman with any reports of malpractice.

This was rejected by the Association Of Garda Sergeants yesterday, but whistleblowers have welcomed the idea, provided members of An Garda Síochána aren't involved in the running of GSOC.

Justice4All is an advocacy group founded by Mick Wallace, Clare Daly, Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan, and Joan Collin.

One of the founding members of Justice4All, Independent TD Flanagan, who is a European election candidate, will hold a press conference in Navan later today alongside former Garda and whistleblower John Wilson.

Deputy Flanagan says the group can no longer handle the high level of complaints.

"The new Minister for Justice has promised she will move decisively and speedily to bring about change in our policing - what we're asking her to do now is set up a forum."

He said such a forum could collate the information before sending it on to the relevant authority.
