The war of words comes as the Government counters a motion of no confidence in the Dáil - by calling a three-hour debate on a motion of confidence in itself.

Opposition parties have complained that the move will mean there is no official debate on the findings of the Fennelly Report.

Deputy Adams said that it is the Government who are playing games.

"The Taoiseach did interviews on the Fennelly Report when no-one had read it, except him, including those of you [journalists] who had to interview him," he said.

"And then by the time the Fennelly Report was produced and digested, the Government's line was already out there.

"So this Government can't accuse anyone of playing games."
