Activists group calls on teaching unions to unite against new public service pay agreement

There are calls for Ireland's teaching unions to form a united front to resolve the issue of pay equalisation.

The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation will take part in a new Government review on the issue, despite its members voting overwhelmingly against the new public service pay agreement.

Eddie Conlon is spokesperson for TUI Grassroots, a group of activists within the union.

He said: "At this point, what the TUI needs to do is meet with the INTO and try to agree a common strategy based on the mandate they have been given.

"We have to see what the members of the ASTI will do, but I would call on them to reject this agreement.

"The three teaching unions should agree a common strategy on this issue now."
