The number of Irish voters who understand the Lisbon Treaty has risen substantially since the rejection of the treaty last June.

The Referendum Commission says its latest research has found that more than 60% of people now know what is contained in the treaty.

This compares to 44% who said they had at least some understanding of the document in the days before last year's referendum.

More than 90% of respondents also said they were likely to vote in the re-run of the referendum on October 2.
