56,000 students to get Leaving Cert results tomorrow

The wait is nearly over for almost 56,000 Leaving Cert students who are getting their Leaving Cert results tomorrow morning.

The Central Applications Office has revealed that 79,000 applied for undergraduate courses this year, 300 more than last year.

A helpline has been set up for worried students and parents ahead of the results tomorrow.

Round 1 offers from colleges will be issued on Monday.

These people told Beat 102-103 if they thought that the Leaving Cert structure is too stressful.

“It’s an awful lot of pressure on you and if you don’t do really well on that test and you might have done brilliant all year long, and it just got on top of you. Some people just can’t deal with the stress and can’t focus.”

Another said: “I think it’s overrated because just the littlest of things and they’ll get stressed over it. They should just get on with it and do it and if they don’t pass it’s not the end of the world.”

Students are being reminded not to panic if things don't go their way.

The Union of Students in Ireland says that the Leaving Cert isn't a measure of who you are as a person.

USI President Kevin Donoghue says that it's important to keep the results in context.

“The important thing is to keep in mind that while it will be an exciting morning for some people, there are options available there if things don’t work out your way.

“It is important to remember, no matter how good or bad it is tomorrow, the Leaving Cert isn’t a measure of who you are as a person or how capable you are as an individual.

“It’s a big day for a lot of people, but it is one day and there are options available and there is support available there if you need them tomorrow morning or indeed the week ahead.”
