Some 220 jobs are to go at the Dublin branch of American finance company Northern Trust.

Some 220 jobs are to go at the Dublin branch of American finance company Northern Trust.

Of the 220 affected, 80 will be offered the opportunity to transfer to the company's fund administration operation in Limerick.

Staff were earlier called to a meeting at which plans to eliminate duplicate roles arising from the aquisition of Bank of Ireland securities services were announced.

Northern Trust provides investment management, asset and fund administration and banking services throughout North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Northern Trust currently employs 950 in Ireland, and has been in the country since 1990.
