€20,000 for Irish Water logo 'a very small amount of money'

The head of Irish Water has defended the company's spending on its logo.

The new utility company spent €20,000 on its logo, which simply includes its name in Irish and English.

Managing director John Tierney says it is understandable that a new firm would need to spend money to create its brand.

Speaking at an Oireachtas committee this evening, he told deputy Luke 'Ming' Flanagan that the logo was necessary.

"It is absolutely understandable that as a new organisation, you would have a brand," he said.

"We spent a very small amount of money in branding terms on the logo piece … the design of the logo."
