A large number of angry public servants turned out in Sligo last night for the first regional meeting of a new group set up to oppose cutbacks recommended by An Bord Snip.
The Frontline Services Alliance includes unions representing nurses, gardaí, soldiers, fire-fighters and prison officers.
Reports this morning say around 400 people were expected to attend last night's meeting in Sligo, but around 1,500 showed up.
Speakers at the meeting reportedly said public-service workers are not willing to become scapegoats for the failures of bankers, regulators and the Department of Finance.
