1,100 cannabis plants seized in raid

Around 1,100 cannabis plants and nine stun guns were recovered today during a raid in west Dublin.

The elaborate and high-tech cultivation factory was discovered in sheds at the rear of a house on Blakestown Road, Blanchardstown.

Gardaí estimate the street value of the plants is up to €450,000.

A 26-year-old man is being questioned by detectives.

The planned raid was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and supply of illegal drugs by officers from the Blanchardstown Drug Unit.

The suspect is being detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Elsewhere, heroin with a potential street value of €150,000 was seized during a house raid in Ballyfermot.

A 19-year-old who was arrested at the scene is being detained at Ballyfermot garda station under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

Gardaí said the search – carried out on a house on Cherry Orchard Parade at approximately 1pm – was the result of an operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the area.
