A State-funded scheme to repair pyrite damage is being welcomed.

From next week homeowners whose properties have cracks or subsidence due to pyrite will be able to avail of a €10m fund.

The Pyrite Resolution Board will determine who qualifies.

The programme only covers homes completed between 1997 and the end of last year, in Dublin city, Fingal and counties Meath, Kildare, and Offaly.

Pyrite Action Group Chairperson Peter Lewis says its great news.

He said: "There is an initial €10m put up; we've been told that, through capital investment, there'll be...potentially up to a further €40m in place to actually deal with people.

"So from our perspective having this scheme in place and that it's kicking off is absolutely fantastic, and will be a huge relief to a huge number of homeowners."
