€108m taxpayer investment in Poolbeg Incinerator under scrutiny

There are calls for an independent investigation into the €108m spent on the Poolbeg Incinerator in Dublin.

Dublin's City Manager, Owen Keegan, yesterday warned that the taxpayer could also be facing a massive legal bill if plans to scrap the project go ahead, which could add to the €96m already spent.

Keegan claims the money can only be regained if the plant is given the go-ahead.

Labour TD and former Dublin City Councillor Kevin Humphries says he believes the taxpayer won't see that money again, and he wants the scheme to be investigated.

"I certainly would support an independent investigation - but before that happens I think there's a role for the environment committee to further investigate and get the facts in a much more speedier manner out to the public," he said.
