Students from five colleges will debate a range of topics at the third annual Great Agri-Food Debate tomorrow in Waterford IT Arena.
Hosted by Dawn Meats and McDonald’s, students from UCD, UCC, Cork IT, Dundalk IT, and Waterford IT will firstly debate topics such as CAP, consumer behaviour, and Brexit’s agri-food impacts from 11.30am to 1.30pm. The final takes place 3.30-5.30pm, with the motion ‘Ireland takes its environmental responsibilities and commitments seriously’.
The judging panel of 12 will include industry leaders from finance, food safety, retail and agriculture such as Tara McCarthy, CEO Bord Bia; Ciaran Finegan, BWG Foods; Niall Browne, CEO, Dawn Meats; Pamela Byrne CEO, FSAI, and Peter Garbutt, agri manager, McDonald’s UK and Ireland.
Dawn Meats exports to over 40 countries. Its site at Carroll’s Cross in Waterford produces 400m beef burgers annually for McDonald’s outlets in Ireland, the UK, and Continental Europe.
