The first ever charity single recorded using Twitter was launched in Dublin today.
The single started with a late night tweet on Saturday, November 19 from @BrendaDrumm, from Newbridge, Co Kildare.
Brenda posed the question to Twitter: "Wouldn’t it be great to have a Twitter Xmas Single?"
Tweet by tweet her idea gained momentum and last Sunday, up to 140 people gathered in the Westin Hotel in Dublin to record the first ever charity Twitter Christmas single.
The singers, musicians, technicians, photographers, videographers, hair, make-up, tea makers, venue, accessories were all sourced through Twitter. All of the volunteers who came along to help were signed up on Twitter.
The charity to benefit from this initiative was also chosen through Twitter and participants settled on the Neonatal special care unit in the National Maternity Hospital in Holles Street, Dublin.
Speaking at the launch of #twitterxmassingle Brenda Drumm said: “I have been overwhelmed at the response to a very short and sweet tweet.
"In just two weeks we have taken a tweet and turned it into a single which is now being tipped to be the Christmas number one. I had no idea that anything like this would happen and it really just shows the power of Twitter and the generosity and goodwill in the hearts of Irish people.
"This is the real spirit of Christmas at work.”
