Taylor Swift praises two Irish creatives as part of ‘her current pop culture obsessions’

Taylor Swift has listed her current pop culture obsessions for Entertainment Weekly and two Irish creatives have made the cut.

Author Sally Rooney is noted as the author she’s currently fanning over and praises the tone of her award-winning book Conversation with Friends.

I really like her book Conversations With Friends. I like the tone she takes when she’s writing. I think it’s like being inside somebody’s mind

The Mayo native claimed top prize at the British Book Awards over the weekend for her novel Normal People, beating off stiff competition such as Former First Lady, Michelle Obama.

She has been hailed for her approachable style and delicate handling of romance in the modern world and is praised for her “profoundly moving” work.

Swift also added Dermot Kennedy to the list commending his songwriting as very poetic.

I think it’s very poetic what he says, you know. Like he’ll include the word ‘reverie.’ I’ll be like, thank you, Dermot Kennedy, for saying reverie in a song in 2019. We need that

Dermot Kennedy was recently one of 10 nominees for the BBC's Sound of 2019, where they defined him as having "folk roots with a hip-hop influence" and highlight his most recent single - Power Over Me - as his key track.

The Dubliner has enjoyed huge success with shows across Europe and US and is currently halfway through his four sold-out dates at Dublin's Olympia Theatre.

The list also includes big names such as Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and BBC America’s Killing Eve.
