Snakes on a Plane director Ellis dies in South Africa

David R. Ellis, the American director of the 2006 thriller "Snakes on a Plane," has died in South Africa.

The body of the 60-year-old former stuntman was found in a bathroom yesterday by management of a hotel in Johannesburg's upscale neighbourhood of Sandton.

Police say the cause of death is unknown.

Ellis was in South Africa for pre-production work for a new film 'Kite', a remake of the 1998 Japanese anime film that was to have starred Snakes on a Plane star Samuel L. Jackson.

Mr Gardner declined to provide additional details, and no cause of death has been released.

Ellis’ directing credits included 'Shark Night 3D', 'The Final Destination', 'Cellular' and 'Final Destination 2'.

He also worked on such films as 'Misery', 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone' and 'Waterworld'.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

Actor Jackson paid tribute over Twitter to the director.
