McCartney refuses request to autograph fan's bum
Paul McCartney turned down a request to sign a fan’s butt during a concert yesterday.
The Beatles legend spotted the wish on a placard being held up by the cheeky admirer during his headlining slot at the Hard Rock Calling festival in London’s Hyde Park as he took a moment to look at some of the banners in the 50,000-strong crowd.
As he surveyed the messages, remarking that some of them had caught “his eye”, he said: “We got one here that says, 'Sign my butt and I'll get it tattooed.’ The answer to that is no.”
Paul entertained the crowd for around three hours and his set featured tracks from every stage of his phenomenal career, including his band Wings and recent side project The Fireman.
Early highlights included ‘Jet’, ‘Band on the Run’ and ‘All My Loving’ and at one point the musician took a break from playing to soak up the atmosphere, saying “I’m just going to take a second to drink this in - this is pretty cool".
Paul also paid tribute to his late Beatles bandmates John Lennon and George Harrison during the evening, dedicating a ukulele-based version of ‘Something’ to George.
The 67-year-old star then treated fans to a selection of the best known and best loved Beatles songs including ‘Back in the U.S.S.R.’, ‘Paperback Writer’, ‘A Day in the Life’ and ‘Let It Be’.
When Paul played ‘Hey Jude’ the entire crowd joined in for a mass sing-a-long, continuing the track’s refrain after he and his band exited the stage.
Paul then returned for a encore which featured ‘Day Tripper’, ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘Lady Madonna’, he then departed once again and fans who had started to leave had to rush back as he returned for a second encore of ‘Yesterday’, ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and ‘The End’.
