Peter Jackson will direct an episode of 'Doctor Who'.

The 'Lord of the Rings' filmmaker is set to take charge of the science fiction favourite and could make the episode in New Zealand.

The show's producer Steven Moffat was recently speaking at a Q&A event in Edinburgh and admitted all Peter wants is a Dalek.

He said: "He's serious about it. We talked at 'The Hobbit' premiere - he just wants a Dalek.

"So we'll give him a Dalek and he'll direct an episode. I think he'd like us to go to New Zealand."

The reports come after the 51-year-old director spoke earlier this year and claimed he didn't even want to be paid as long as he was given one of 'Doctor Who's' iconic villains.

He previously insisted: "They don't even have to pay me, but I have got my eye on one of those nice new gold-coloured Daleks. They must have a spare one."

Earlier this month, actor Peter Capaldi was announced as the Twelfth Doctor, taking over from Matt Smith later this year.

He said: "It's so wonderful not to keep the secret any longer, but it has been absolutely fantastic in its own way.

"So many wonderful things have happened, for a while I couldn't tell my daughter who kept looking on the Internet and discovering that people were saying, 'so and so should be Doctor Who'.

"She was getting rather upset that it never mentioned me. I said to her, 'Just rise above it darling.' "
