I won't press charges against Chris Brown, says Ocean

R&B star Frank Ocean has said he will not pursue criminal charges against singer Chris Brown, who is alleged to have punched him in a recent fight.

“As a child I thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man,” Ocean said on his Tumblr page. “But as a man I am not a killer. I’m an artist and a modern person. I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit.”

Brown remained under investigation for his role in a fight outside a West Hollywood recording studio on January 27, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Witnesses said Brown punched Ocean during an argument over a parking space. Ocean later tweeted that he “got jumped by Chris and a couple guys” and received a cut finger.

Brown has not commented on the allegation.

Mr Whitmore said Ocean had said he “desired prosecution” and said the investigation was continuing because Ocean had not told authorities that he had a change of heart.

“It’s ongoing until an official statement is made to us,” Mr Whitmore said.

Brown, 23, remains on probation for attacking Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammy Awards and is due back in court on February 6 to update a judge on his progress.

Ocean is due to perform at the Grammys on February 10, where he is up for six awards including album of the year.
