Bressie attacks government at gig
The Government regularly comes under fire from opposition parties and politicians, but one of Ireland’s favourite heartthrobs has launched an unlikely scathing attack.
Musician Niall Breslin – or Bressie – hit out at the Fine Gael-Labour coalition for letting the country down.
The former frontman of The Blizzards and winning coach of this year’s singing talent show 'The Voice of Ireland' warned thousands of fans to vote against the politicians currently in power.
“I don’t normally do politics, but this Government is an awful bollocks,” Bressie said during a gig in Westmeath on Saturday.
“I want to make an appeal to all you people out there. Don’t make the same mistakes we did by voting them in again.”
Bressie, 31, was performing to thousands of fans at the Festival of the Fires on the Hill of Uisneach, Mullingar.
The former Westmeath Gaelic footballer played his entire set and made the appeal just before leaving the stage. However his followers will have to wait four years before the next general election to heed his advice.
Around 5,000 people attended the Festival of the Fires, which is described as a rekindling of the Celtic Bealtaine festival – the oldest festival in Ireland.
Bressie played a solo music set, opening up for Dublin’s Hothouse Flowers.
Other bands included Jape, Relish and The Riptide Movement.
There were also fire performances, art, pageantry, shamans and storytellers entertaining the crowds throughout the day.
