Wife of NFL star leaves assault rifle in rental car

We have heard of leaving your umbrella in the car but a semi-automatic rifle is taking it to a new level.

Lauren Tannehill, wife of Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, managed to leave a AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle in the back of a rented Nissan Rogue.

The rifle was discovered by a shocked mother who was holidaying in the ‘Sunshine State’ with her daughter when she rented the car after Mrs Tannehill.

Judith Fleissig from Rochester, New York contacted local authorises to report her find and turned the gun over to them.

She said: “We got out of the car, we were kind of freaked out, I didn’t want to touch it.”

The AR-15 semi-automatic rifle

Apparently, leaving a gun behind you is not a criminal offence in Broward county and the gun is legally registered to Mr Tannehill.

The Miami Dolphins would only comment that the incident was a personal matter for the Tannehills.

Wikipedia tells us that in Ireland, semi-automatic AR-15s are only legal if they are rim-fire and have their magazines blocked to 10 rounds.

Any other semi-automatic AR requires a restricted license. Non semi-automatic ARs are legal up to .308 and further calibre ARs required restricted firearms licenses.
