The Guardian published a rather nice little editorial on the game of hurling this morning, selling its virtues to the great British public.
"As Premier League soccer is again soiled with prima donna antics ... the hand-eye co-ordination and the courage and commitment of Cork and Clare were a shining example of sportsmanship," the editorial writer said.
Ah thanks. But it's the reaction that is particularly good, with most of The Guardian readers – which Wikipedia helpfully says are "generally on the mainstream left" – being rather disappointed it wasn't about drunken Irish stereotypes falling over.
Ah … thanks? Good to see that international image going strong. But let's not forget the ladies, of course:
Classy.
Nice as The Guardian editorial is, it still isn't a patch on this summary of the game from an American sports commentator who had never seen it before.
Hurling: great stuff altogether.
