A white-tailed sea eagle is getting help to keep her chick fed after its father went missing.
Conservation rangers at Glengarriff Nature Reserve in West Cork said the adult male, Blue W, has not been seen around the nest for several days.
While unusual for the male to disappear while there is a chick in the nest, it can happen. The male may have paired with another female or it may have been killed in a fight with another eagle.
Rangers have now arranged for the delivery of fresh fish and meat twice a day to a site near the nest to help the mother, Black P, raise the chick on her own.
The chick is expected to fledge in about 10 weeks. A webcam is streaming its progress live to the world.
It's the second white-tailed sea eagle chick born in Cork in the last decade.
