Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland, was over in the States and made an appearance on Squawk Box, a financial news show on CNBC. He was there to discuss the Irish economy and to keep on promoting us as the Best Small Country in the World In Which To Do Business.
And it was going quite well - until around seven minutes in. That's when one of the other hosts - Joe Kernen - decided to interrupt with this bizarre line of questioning.
Kernen just can't wrap his head around the fact that Ireland and the UK are two separate entities with different currencies.
And despite his co-anchors trying to redirect the converstaion, he just won't let it go.
Look, we know it may seem a
confusing but a quick glance at Wikipedia five minutes before you air and you can avoid this kind of nonsense.Fair play to Martin Shanahan anyway - he managed to answer the inane questons in a non-patronising but firm manner.
"Why would you do that?" "Why
we do that?"You tell him, Martin.
