A lucky escape.

This is what happens when a helicopter and a cow collide

Did you know that in places with large amounts of cattle, helicopters are now sometimes used to muster or herd the animals?

And of course, that comes with its own dangers as this pilot in Queensland, Australia, found out last Sunday.

The 35-year-old was flying a Robinson R22 Beta mustering helicopter low over Coen Cattle Station when one of the rails at the bottom of the chopper became entangled with a cow's horns.

This caused the chopper to lose balance, resulting in a very rough landing.

And reportedly the cow was fine. The pilot was fine.

The helicopter was not fine.

After the bumpy landing, it went up in flames. The Rural Fire Service attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

From the police report of the incident:

"It's believed the rails underneath the helicopter got tangled up in the cow's horns, causing the chopper to lose balance. The pilot, a 35-year-old Richmond man, walked away from the crash without any injury.

"The cow escaped becoming roast beef and lived to roam another day."
