Yesterday it was revealed that Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar had re-registered as a doctor and will be offering his services to the HSE during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is understood Mr. Varadkar, who was a doctor for seven years before leaving the profession for politics, signed up to the Medical Register last month.
He had not been on the register since 2013.
The news of Varadkar’s move quickly spread across the world and here’s how the internet - at home and aboard - has reacted.

Irish PM Leo Varadkar, a former medical doctor who left medicine for politics, is set to work one shift per week during #CoronavirusPandemic . Impressive to see a world leader roll their sleeves up like this.
Our very own @KBonimtetezi is hiding in his house.
Who cares if @LeoVaradkar rejoining the medical registrar is a PR stunt or not...it’s an extra pair of hands, even if it’s only 1 shift a week, to help the fight against #Covid_19

The Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) has returned to practising medicine to help Ireland during this pandemic. What a bloody legend! #coronavirus #proudtobeirish 💚☘️ pic.twitter.com/TgjRZ11eUH

No fan of Leo Varadkar but fair play to him to give a dig out to #Covid19 fightback by taking a shift a week. If it gives only 1 doctor on the front line a break it's a gesture worth making.

I for one applaud @LeoVaradkar 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 #Ireland he is a trained doctor and willing to help! Well done 🙏

Where is the harm in Leo Varadkar rejoining the Medical Register? Whether it's a PR exercise or not isn't going to matter to those he gets to assess, I would have thought. Senator Maire Devine (SF) recently re-registered as a nurse, something which was widely welcomed.

Well done to Irelands Taoiseach
Decent gesture from @LeoVaradkar to work again part time as a doctor during #coronavirus crisis.

He will work one shift every week to assist during the coronavirus outbreak.
He is a medical doctor by profession before joining politics. This is very commendable.
A spokesman for the Department of Taoiseach said: “He has offered his services to the HSE for one session a week in areas that are within his scope of practice.
