Our Readers' Photography Competition for 2019 is well underway and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our readers who took part in our 2018 competition.
We had a record number of readers send in their photographs, with more than 4,800 entries last year.
Part of the continued success of our readers' competition is because it is open to everyone who likes photography - not just those who are seasoned amateur photographers.
Quite a number of pictures we receive are taken on a mobile phone and are from readers capturing that special moment - the one where you find yourself in the right place at the right time.
One of our runner-up winning entries this year was one such picture, taken on a mobile phone by Roisin Ellison.
Roisin's five-year-old daughter, Hollie, was playing in a field of barley in Inistioge, Co Kerry while visiting relatives.
Roisin quickly grabbed her smartphone and started snapping resulting in a stunning picture that not only captured the moment but one that also caught the colour and the light.

Patience was the key to John O’Brien’s photograph of the “fearsome yawn” of a fox on the River Dodder in Dublin.
John was also a runner-up in our competition.
The 56-year-old from Wicklow took a trip to the River Dodder after learning that a fox was a regular visitor to the area.
Our overall winner this year is Allie Glynn from Co Clare with a great image of two-year-old Lily taking over the mass at St. Sennan’s Church in Knockerra.
This super image immediately caught the eye of the judges and stood out right through the judging process.
The quality of the entries this year was outstanding, so much so that we thought we should share a gallery of some of the wonderful pictures submitted during the course of the year with you.
