Niall Horan has teamed up with Hozier, and a host of other Irish musicians, to released a global video spreading the message to stay at home as part of #UniteByStayingApart during the lockdown period.
Among the big names featured in the video includes The Edge, Hozier, Dermot Kennedy, Gavin James, Damien Dempsey, Steve Garrigan of Kodaline, Andrea Corr, Westlife, Ryan Hennessy of Picture This, The Script and Imelda May.
The video begins with Niall Horan before other celebrities join in and collectively give this message:
"The Irish are known all over the world for being passionate, fun-loving and very patriotic people.
We may be a small country, but through our culture, our works, our spirit, and our resolve, we wield a lot of power on the world stage
"Right now we face an unprecedented challenge the likes of which we may never see again in our lifetime."
"In unnerving times like these in the face of this pandemic, now is the time we can show the very best of ourselves to each other and the world.
"As we face into this battle, now is the time for us to unite.
"Now is the time to lead by example and show the world what we can do when we pull together."
"We must think and give back to our nurses, doctors and all other medical staff. The real heroes.
"As musicians, we would say this is a great time for you to learn an instrument, write a song, write a poem, or listen to some of your favourite music.
"But above all, we ask you to stay inside.
We must protect our beautiful country and its people and do what we can for those working on the front line.
"Soon we will be back with our loved ones that we all miss so much and we will all be back doing what we love to do.
"The better we commit to these measures, the sooner this moment will be another thing we, as a people, have overcome."
"Unite by staying apart.”
Speaking to 2FM Breakfast about the video, he told the listeners about how the concept came to fruition through the current restrictions, particularly with people he describes as "taking the foot off the gas".
Niall said: “Why don’t I try and go through my contacts of Irish musicians. Myself and Hozier wrote up the little speech in from the video and we chatted back and forth about it and then I went around to all the different Irish singers and musicians and kind of asked them would they film themselves."
"It has taken me quite a while and it’s quite hard to commandeer 20 odd singers and pile them into a video but we did it and yeah the video has turned out really good.”
