McDonald’s make amazing gesture to Cork boy with autism
Cork mother Nicole Duggan was at the end of her tether when her son Riley’s favourite Angry Birds toy went missing.
Two-and-a-half-year-old Riley has autism and is non-verbal, so it can be hard for him to take to new toys.
Recently, Riley - who’s from Glanmire - has become quite taken with the Angry Birds toys that came in McDonald’s Happy Meals, his mother told Cork’s RedFM Facebook page.
Knowing that her son loved the toys Nicole did her best to stock up on his favourite ones, unfortunately for them - like most children’s toys – Riley’s Angry Birds found themselves on the missing list.
“Yesterday morning he spent an hour searching in every cupboard and drawer for these birds, which were nowhere to be seen,” Nicole told Cork’s RedFM.
“He is non-verbal and finds it so hard to get his feelings across, so losing his favourite toy caused a lot of tantrums and upset.”
To make matters worse, Nicole found out that McDonald’s had moved onto a different toy for their Happy Meals. Being by her own admittance “in a panic” Nicole produced a moment of quick thinking that would save the day.
The mother decided to search out McDonald’s Irish operations online to see if they could help.
Speaking to breakingnews.ie Nicole said: “I googled ‘McDonald’s Ireland’ and just emailed to contact info. I got in touch with a lovely woman called Ambily.”
Well McDonald’s and Ambily came through for the Cork family in style, and Nicole got a lovely surprise when the post man knocked on her door yesterday morning.
“We were woken by the post man with this amazing package! The whole collection of Angry Birds toys,” read Nicole’s mail to Red FM.
“To most people this would be a stupid delivery to get, for my little boy it was like Christmas morning!
“McDonalds went above and beyond for my small man and I can't thank them enough.”
Nicole tells us that Riley couldn’t have been happier with his gifts from McDonald’s.
“He has been so, so excited. The Angry Birds never left his hands yesterday.
“And this morning the first thing he grabbed was them again! He just loves them.”
