Learn how to paint (or draw) Guinness vintage classics by the master, John Gilroy

By Anna O'Donoghue

Although Monday marked Phase 1 of the Government Covid-19 exit plan, social distancing requirements continue to stay in place across the country, until further notice.

In a bid to stay social during these strange times, people have been adapting to using various social media platforms, such as Zoom, Facetime and Skype to help stay connected with friends and family.

But if you’ve exhausted your quiz knowledge over the past few weeks, why not try something different?

Irish creative events company, Paint by the Pints offers step-by-step online painting tutorials each week and this week they’re teaming up with Guinness to teach the world, step by step, how to paint (or draw) Guinness vintage classics by the master, John Gilroy.

The event, second in their series, will also see special guests provide some fun surprise activities related to Guinness, including master brewers and beer specialists from St. James's Gate and the Guinness Archivist, Jessica Handy, who delivers behind the scenes insight into the history of the painting you will be working on.

It also wouldn’t be ‘Paint by the Pints’ if the team at Guinness didn’t teach you how to pour the perfect pint and give tips on how to make a "black velvet" drink featuring some unlikely ingredients mixed together.

Here’s how it works:

  • Grab a ticket via their website.
  • At 7pm on May 22, they will email out the link to the live video stream.
  • The team will be available to answer any questions, give virtual high fives and support you with any advice needed to complete the painting. Write to them directly in the YouTube Chat. Send them a facebook message, Instagram DM or email us on Paintbythepints@gmail.com.
  • Once you sign up for your spot, the video will be available to you for as long as you wish, even if you cannot join us at the time of the event. You can start, pause and resume the painting when it is convenient for you and your family.
  • This being a paid event allows them to get back to doing our 1 for 1 donations to charity. The charity will be announced on the live event! The rest of the proceeds go towards Paint by the Pints virtual events, allowing them to run low cost and free events for the public over the next few weeks.
  • This event is for over 18's
  • Please drink responsibly
