Crystal clean

Back in 2009, former tennis star Andre Agassi revealed in his autobiography "Open" that he had once used crystal meth. However, the eight-time Grand Slam champion admitted in his book that he was able to get away with it by writing a letter to the ATP tour to explain his positive test as an accident after he drank from a meth-spiked soda.

The bald truth

The former Brazilian striker Romario was suspended for 120 days after he tested positive for the banned substance finasteride in 2007. Romario said he had been using a medicine to prevent hair loss. Finasteride is the active ingredient in the anti-balding medication Propecia.

Strange brew

Jockey Franny Norton tested positive for a metabolite (a substance produced after the body has processed a chemical) of cocaine in 2003. Norton denied taking anything illegal, claiming that an exotic tea for controlling his weight was responsible.

The Capuccino Kid

Australian pentathlete Alex Watson was originally banned for life after he tested positive for caffeine in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Watson told the IOC that he had drunk 12-15 cups of coffee and at least 2-3 cups of cola over a 12-hour period. Alex appealed to the court and the life ban was reduced to two years enabling him to compete in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

What a load of balls!

According to Medical Daily, athletes in ancient Greece used to chew on raw animal testicles to lift their testosterone levels.
