'Excellent place to cough': Tripadvisor suspends reviews of Barnard Castle
Numerous parody messages have been left on the Tripadvisor page for the Durham landmark.

Widespread public anger in the UK met the news of senior political advisor Dominic Cumming's actions during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Reports uncovered he had travelled from London to Durham during the lockdown while displaying symptoms of the coronavirus.

Yesterday in a press conference, Mr Cummings argued that his journey to Durham in March was justified as he sought to protect his family’s health.

But many questions remained unanswered, including over his subsequent drive to Barnard Castle which he said was to test his eyesight after it was affected by Covid-19.

There has been a hostile response to the UK government's defence of the advisor's actions however some internet users found an amusing way to express their displeasure.

The Tripadvisor page for Barnard Castle in Durham has been flooded with fake reviews, by people pretending to be Dominic Cummings.

The travel website has now suspended reviews of the tourist attraction.

One reviewer's written that the castle is "better than Specsavers".

Others joked it offered an "escape from work" and had "great childcare facilities".

Another user said it was "a long drive from London but well worth it."

"Excellent place to cough" was the verdict of one fake user while another review said: "Had a nasty cough and temperature over the weekend so came sightseeing here to take my mind off it."

Although unfortunately, if you are feeling creative yourself an attempt is no longer possible.

Just as well because some of the best material may have already been used up.

"Cummings and Goings," indeed.
