Fine Gael by-election candidate Eamon Coghlan appeared on Vincent Browne's programme last night as part of a panel of candidates from the Dublin West constituency - and certainly made an impression on viewers.
Coghlan, who is a sitting Senator, started talking about the achievements of the Government, before embarking on an impersonation of a local constituent, leaping out of his chair in the process.
While it's worth watching the full clip,
.The reaction on social media was firmly negative.

So Eamon Coughlan had a bad night? How was anyone to know how he performs, hidden in the Seanad where nobody hears the trees fall. #seanref

Coghlan is a former athlete, three-time Olympian and World Champion middle-distance runner, who was appointed as a Senator by the Taoiseach in 2011, following the general election.
He is contesting the Dublin West seat left vacant by the resignation of Patrick Nulty in March.
