Dublin is the sixth friendliest city in the world, according to a new survey.

The capital features in the top 10 while Cork, the only other Irish city to make its way into the top 50, comes in at 17.

Popular travel website, Big 7, surveyed their social audience of 1.5 million people asking "where would you find the friendliest city in the world?".

Vancouver in Canada topped the poll thanks to their "extraordinarily friendly residents".

The multicultural community, safe atmosphere and helpful locals were among the reasons why the Canadian city is considered so friendly.

Dublin is hailed for its good-natured people and good sense of humour.

"Whether you're lost or just looking for a chat in a pub, Dubliners will be on hand to help out," the website says.

Dubliners' good manners also gets a shout out as Big 7 says that thanking the bus driver is "the perfect example of classic Irish warmth".

Making it into the top 20, Cork is described as "a charming and compact riverside city".

Friendly chats with locals is one of the reasons the city ranks as the 17th friendliest in the world.

The website says "the chances of a stranger saying hi to you on the street is likely".

Three UK cities made it into the top 50 - Glasgow just makes it into the top 10, Manchester ranks 32nd and London comes in at 40.

The English capital is described as being "stand-offish at first" and says that if you "don't make eye contact with anyone on the tube" you will fit right in.

Those traveling to Japan for the Rugby World Cup will be happy to see that Tokyo makes the list at 28.

It says the city has an excellent reputation when it comes to making visitors feel welcome.

"The city can be a culture shock at first...but locals will point you on your way and are super chatty and warm."
