A Dublin art gallery is selling specially made golf balls to commemorate the now infamous Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Clifden last week.

The man behind it is gallery owner Frank O'Dea who runs the Balla Bán Art Gallery in Dublin's city centre.

He used a local printing company to make the golf balls and they are now available to buy at the gallery for €10 each.

Speaking about the idea behind it, he said he wanted to do something to mark the recent events:

"I like to have a bit of a fun with things and so I just got this little brainwave with all that was going on over the whole week.

"I just thought I would get these little golf balls printed up and put them on display on the gallery as something light-hearted."

As he said those at the dinner 'made a balls of it' so it was a way for him to portray that in a very simple way.

Although the gallery focuses on emerging artists, as an artist himself he still finds time to do caricatures.

"I have done ones of Donald Trump, Pope Franics and various politicians as well such as Micheál Martin and Leo Varadkar as well.

As he said, there is always something topical to do and so the golfballs were just a satirical take on things.

Like a lot of other businesses during lockdown, the gallery was hit hard and he is now only working Thursday to Saturday because of the lack of footfall.

Thankfully though online sales have really picked up for the gallery in recent months:

"Surprisingly It has been good and I have found that the online now has really picked up with the website that I have. I think people just have a bit more time on their hands and also some people might have saved some money as well because they are not going on holidays."

There are plenty of contemporary artists on display at the Balla Bán Art Gallery so if you are thinking of picking up one of the golf balls you can browse some of their work too.
