A badger which fell down a 10ft-deep drain was hoisted to freedom by an RSPCA officer in England.
The trapped animal was spotted by a woman who was walking her dogs in Brentwood, Essex, on February 21.
RSPCA animal collection officer Joe White said: "We have no idea how long this little guy had been trapped but he was clearly quite distressed.
"I used a grasper pole and had to lay right by the drain and really stretch to reach 10ft down into the chasm to secure him before I could lift him out.
"He was very feisty and after putting him in my carrier and giving him a quick check over for any injuries he appeared well so I decided to release him instead of subjecting him to any more stress.
"He ran off really fast so obviously knew where he was going."
The officer then dragged the drain cover back into place in Warley Hill to prevent any further accidents.
