Argos to stop printing its catalogue after 50 years and 1bn copies

Argos is to stop printing its famous catalogue after almost 50 years.

At its height the catalogue was the most widely circulated publication in Europe, with more than one billion copies printed since its launch.

Argos has said it is now going to focus on its online service and digital shopping experiences, which will offer more convenience to its customers.

People have been sharing their nostalgia for the publication online.

It comes as brick and mortar retail stores have been hit hard by both the coronavirus pandemic and the move towards online shopping.

Argos has over 40 stores in Ireland, after first opening in the Republic almost 25 years ago in 1996.

The retailer launched its Irish website in 2005 and now has over 25,000 products online. It is one of the largest retail employers in the country with around 1,000 employees.

Argos has said it will continue to produce its Christmas Gift Guide, which will remain available in stores.
