5 Celebrity Weddings Postponed In 2020 – And What The Brides Might Wear Next Year

This year was set to be a big one for star-studded weddings, with a host of Hollywood A-listers and one royal Princess due to tie the knot.

But then the coronavirus pandemic hit, and now most of the famous couples have sadly had to postpone their plans.

We were thrilled to see Princess Beatrice did choose to go ahead with her nuptials though; the 31-year-old royal married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a scaled back ceremony at Windsor Castle two months later than originally planned.

Now, we’re looking ahead to 2021 and hoping we’ll see some truly extravagant weddings once lockdown restrictions have been lifted and large gatherings are allowed again.

Plus, we’re excited about seeing some epic designer bridal gowns. But will these leading ladies play it safe on their Big Day, or surprise us with an unexpected choice, like Princess Beatrice did with her revamped vintage gown?

Here are five celebrities who are (hopefully) tying the knot next year, and the designers we predict they’ll choose for their walk down the aisle…

1. Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez

In March 2019, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announced their engagement, after the former American baseballer proposed to the pop icon during a romantic getaway in the Bahamas.

This will be JLo’s fourth wedding and, judging by her previous bridalwear choices (which include Vera Wang and Versace), the 50-year-old will don something classic but glamorous.

We’re thinking a lace-embellished white dress with a dramatic full skirt from a US-based designer like Oscar de la Renta or Reem Acra, two of her red carpet favourites, and we predict the ceremony might take place in the Bahamas too.

2. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom

If Katy Perry had married this year, she’d have walked down the aisle with a sizable baby bump – the pop star is expecting her first child with actor Orlando Bloom who popped the question on Valentine’s Day last year.

Given that Bloom presented Perry with a flower-shaped engagement ring, and the singer has since released a song called Never Worn White in which she wore a huge floral gown, we’re hoping for a similarly spectacular creation on her wedding day.

French couturier Alexis Mabille designed another look from the Never Worn White video, so perhaps he’ll be enlisted for the task.

3. Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost

Scarlett Johansson will be getting married for the third time when she weds comedian Colin Jost, who she met on the set of Saturday Night Live – they became engaged in 2019.

On the red carpet, Johansson is a fan of glamorous, form-fitting dresses, often in traditional bridal wear hues, so we could totally see her in a glittering gown from Elie Saab’s bridal atelier.

4. Emma Stone and Dave McCary

Another relationship that began thanks to Saturday Night Live, actor Emma Stone reportedly met director Dave McCary when she hosted the US comedy show in 2016, and the pair announced their engagement in December 2019.

There are rumours the couple secretly married, but if not, Stone is the face of Louis Vuitton perfume and a long-time friend of the French fashion house, so we anticipate the actor would ask creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere to create her bridal gown. The 31-year-old tends to favour sleek, modern dresses on the red carpet, and we imagine her bridal look would follow suit.

5. Elizabeth Olsen and Robbie Arnett

Actor Elizabeth Olsen, younger sister of twins Ashley and Mary Kate, reportedly got engaged to musician Robbie Arnett last summer, so will the 31-year-old be asking her fashion designer siblings to make her bridal gown?

The pair are certainly used to designing all-white looks for their brand The Row, but their minimalist aesthetic may be a little too understated for a wedding dress.

We would love to see the actor in a show-stopping design by Alexander McQueen, the brand responsible for the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress and one Olsen has donned for red carpet appearances in the past.
