2fm star Eoghan McDermott has shaved his head for charity live on The Late Late Show.

The presenter shaved off his “crowning glory” for the Julian Benson Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (JBCFF).

The charity was set up by Benson, a Dancing With The Stars judge, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) when he was two-years-old.

CF is a disease that affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system.

Benson said on the Late Late that he was “humbled” by McDermott’s efforts and by the support of the Irish people.

So far, McDermott’s shave has raised more than €425,000.

According to a GoFundMe set up by McDermott, “the immediate goal of JBCFF is to provide free accommodation for the families of Cystic Fibrosis patients receiving  long courses of treatment in Dublin.”

He wrote: “Many families must either pay for expensive hotels or commute long distances daily from all over the country to be with loved ones during difficult times.

“The foundation wants to provide dedicated accommodation close to St Vincents Hospital (the national referral hospital for CF) and make it available, free of charge, for CF families 24/7/365.

“The accommodation will also be available to families of CF patients in other Dublin hospitals.”

Following the chop, McDermott thanked the public for their “insane generosity”.

Taking to social media, he said: “Appreciate every single donation big or small. You are wonderful. From myself and [Julian] thank you thank you thank you.”

Earlier today, Benson praised McDermott and thanked those who had donated.

He tweeted to say: “From the bottom of my heart thank you all so much for the amazing donations that are still coming in..incredible!

“This will be life changing for families with cystic fibrosis.

“We will never forgot your generosity.”

Benson said McDermott is “my rockstar..love you all!”
