UK expected to announce increase in GDP figures

It is expected to be announced later that the UK economy picked up sharply in the second quarter of the year.

It is expected to be announced later that the UK economy picked up sharply in the second quarter of the year.

Official figures are published this morning, with experts predicting a rise of around 0.6% in gross domestic product.

That sort of an increase would be the best performance, excluding special events, since the third quarter of 2011.
