Social media giant Twitter celebrates its 10th birthday tomorrow.
With 500 million Tweets per day and 200 billion Tweets every year, it has become the global viewing and commentary platform for its users in Ireland and beyond.
Since the first Tweet was sent in 2006, Twitter has become part of the fabric of everyday life for many users.

The platform has seen many popular Irish phenomena, including the #HomeToVote campaign during the Marriage Equality referendum.
The movement born on Twitter, starting with the first Tweet coming from the train to Holyhead.

It went on to trend globally that day with over 72,000 tweets sent.
Started by @rickoshea in 2015, #FiveWordsToRuinADate ended up trending worldwide with celebrities, brands and even fictional characters across the world getting in on the hashtag.

Set up ahead of the Queen’s Visit to Ireland in 2011 @GardaTraffic has become one of Ireland’s most iconic Twitter accounts.
With over 200,000 followers, the account mixes serious news, a unique sense of humour and lots of puns.
