SIPTU demands meeting with Covidien management
SIPTU has requested an immediate meeting with the management of Covidien following today's announcement that the medical device manufacturer has agreed to be acquired by Medtronic.
The union says workers are concerned as to what implications, if any, this will have on their pay and conditions and job security.
Covidien currently employs over a thousand people in Ireland at its plants in Tullamore, Athlone and Dublin.
While, Medtronic currently operates a major medical devices manufacturing plant in Co. Galway.
