New chief executive appointed at Ulster Bank

Gerry Mallon has been appointed as chief executive of Ulster Bank in the Republic of Ireland.

He is stepping down as head of Danske Bank in Northern Ireland and will take up his new role in June 2016.

Mr Mallon has previously worked at Ulster Bank, leaving in 2008 to join Danske.

Les Matheson, CEO, RBS personal and business banking, said: “RBS and Ulster Bank are delighted to announce the appointment of Gerry Mallon as chief executive of Ulster Bank in the Republic of Ireland.

“Gerry has a significant knowledge of the banking landscape in Ireland which will be invaluable to us as we continue to build a strong and profitable bank that is number one for customer service, trust and advocacy across the UK and Ireland.”

Mr Mallon will be replaced by his deputy Kevin Kingston, a statement from Danske said.

Lars Morch, chairman of Danske Bank UK, said: “I would like to express our thanks to Gerry Mallon for his significant contribution to Danske Bank over the last eight years.

“Danske Bank has built a strong position in the Northern Ireland marketplace and this year has continued its sustained upward growth trajectory.

“Kevin Kingston has been instrumental to that success in terms of securing our position as the market leading bank for business customers.

“He brings with him a long track record of delivering what is best for customers and a wealth of experience in the banking sector.

“Kevin and his wider management team will now lead the bank on to the next stage in its development journey.”

Mr Kingston joined Danske Bank from Ulster Bank in 2008.

In 2011 he became managing director of business banking and in 2012 was also designated as deputy chief executive.

He is the immediate past president of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce & Industry and a former president of the Chartered Accountants Ulster Society.
