Management and unions at C&D Foods in County Longford are to meet tomorrow to discuss the future of 53 jobs at the plant.

The pet food firm is in the middle of a 30 day consultative period with staff about the reorganisation of the company.

However, it says the decision to stop production, in the area where the jobs are going, is final.

Higher wages, infrastructure costs and the ongoing weakness of Sterling are being blamed for the cuts.

Managing Director Philip Reynolds says the company will do its best to save some of the jobs.
