House prices 7.6% higher than a year ago
House prices have gone up by 7.6% in the year to January.
There was a slight drop in residential property prices during the month of January itself, according to figures released this morning by the CSO.
Residential prices decreased by 0.5% in the month of January, compared to an increase of 0.5% in December.
In Dublin, house prices fell by 1.2% in January, coming out 3.4% higher than the same time last year, less than half the overall national average.
The price of homes in the rest of the country - excluding Dublin - rose by 0.1% in January compared with a fall of 0.9% in January last year.
House prices in Dublin are now just over a third lower (34.9%) than at their highest level in early 2007.
Property prices across Ireland are on average 33.8% below their 2007 peak.
