Hotel prices on the up after record year of tourism

Hotel prices across Ireland went up by an average of 15% last year.

A new report from Hotels.com show the average rate paid for a room was €118 a night in 2015.

The index says the rise in prices shows that the tourism industry is continuing to recover here.

Lizann Peppard of Hotels.com outlines the figures: “They rose 15% last year overall, primarily because we have had a record year of tourism in Ireland.

“Primarily down to Americans and Brits who have been spending their money because they have a much stronger currency here.

“But also there is a greater confidence in the Irish economy so Irish people are spending more.”
