Farmers not ruling out further protests at meat factories
Members of the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) are taking part in a 48-hour demonstration, which began yesterday, at 14 plants around the country.
The action is affecting processing facilities owned by Kepak, Dawn Meats and Larry Goodman's ABP Group.
Meat Industry Ireland - which represents the factories - is accusing farmers of using prices from the UK that are misleading.
The IFA President Eddie Downey, speaking at Kepak in Clonee in Co Meath, says his members are not being paid a fair price.
"On Wednesday there's a beef forum scheduled, we'll await the outcome of that," he said.
"We hope the industry will see sense and move on with the price and give a decent price back to us as farmers.
"So the ball is in their court, it's up to them to decide what's going to happen here - and they have the opportunity to move that price forward."
