The State may be facing a multi-million Euro payout if actions being taken against it over the awarding of the second mobile phone licence to Esat Digifone prove successful.
It was confirmed last night that some of the losing bidders for the licence in 1995 have initiated legal proceedings over the manner in which the decision was reached.
No statements of claim have been lodged so far in relation to the amount of damages being sought. The Moriarty Tribunal is currently investigating the awarding of the licence to Esat Digifone.
