HMV and Xtra-Vision owners Hilco Capital announced today that their new HMV store on Grafton Street officially opens its doors this Saturday at 9am.
HMV are relocating from their current address on Dublin’s famous shopping street to number 72.
The outlet has planned a day of special offers, live performances and entertainment at the new location. Stock is limited so customers are encouraged to get down early.
The opening will also feature entertainment by the HMV breakdancers, as well as live performances from Irish bands Little Hours (2pm) and HamsandwicH (3pm).
Larry Howard, CEO of Hilco Capital Ireland said: "We’re thrilled to have secured this new premises on Dublin’s most popular retail street.
"The relocation marks the continuation of our expansion plans, and we’re looking forward to continuing to deliver the best choice in music, movies, games and technology on Grafton Street.
"It’s particularly apt that HMV is moving to No. 72 Grafton Street - a location that has historically been a home for entertainment on the street.
"The building originally housed the Grafton Cinema, which opened in 1911, and entertained the people of Dublin until finally closing its doors in December 1973.
"It’s very fitting that HMV is bringing entertainment back to this iconic building."
HMV have nine stores operating in Ireland, with stores in Dublin (Grafton Street, Henry Street, Dundrum Towncentre and Liffey Valley); Galway, Limerick, Belfast, Ballymena and Newry.
There are also 51 dual branded HMV and Xtra-Vision stores across the country.
