Two thirds of British Airways staff who took part in an unofficial strike which crippled flights at Heathrow airport have returned to work, the airline reported today.
Some baggage handlers and other employees reported for duty this morning, but more decided to end their action after it was announced that peace talks would be held to try to resolve a row involving a firm which supplies food to the airline.
BA earlier announced that no flights would leave Heathrow until 8pm tonight at the earliest because of the wildcat action.
Tens of thousands of passengers have been left stranded because of the dispute, which caused travel chaos in one of the busiest weeks of the year for the airline industry.
It was not immediately clear if the return to work would lead to an early resumption of flights.
