American Airlines is to buy at least 460 new planes over the next five years in a drive to save money on fuel and provide better facilities for passengers.

American Airlines is to buy at least 460 new planes over the next five years in a drive to save money on fuel and provide better facilities for passengers.

It will buy 260 planes from Airbus and 200 from Boeing, while it also has purchase rights for up to 465 additional planes through to 2025.

The news comes as unions and management at American Airlines are meeting this afternoon, following the announcement that around 130 jobs are to go in Dublin.
